Copy Music, Images, and Movies from Your Computer to an iPhone on Windows

You're not taking full advantage of your iPhone if you're not using it as a complete media player. You can play your music, watch movies and TV shows and look at your photos. iTunes allows you to easily manage your iPhone's media, and you can quickly sync your music, photos, and videos.

Steps

Connecting Your iPhone

  1. Download and install the latest iTunes on your Windows PC. iTunes is available for free, and can be downloaded from Apple.
    • Download-iTunes.
  2. Connect your iPhone to your computer using its USB cable.
  3. Tap "Trust" on your iPhone. This will pop up the first time that you connect your iPhone to a new computer.
  4. Open iTunes on your Windows PC if it doesn't open automatically. Depending on your settings, iTunes may open automatically when you connect your iPhone.
  5. Click the "Trust iPhone" button if it appears in iTunes. This usually occurs the first time you connect a new iOS device to a computer.
  6. Run through the initial setup. The first time you connect your device, you may be prompted to set it up in iTunes. This won't affect any of the content on your iPhone, it just gives' your iPhone a label in iTunes.
  7. Select your iPhone in iTunes. If it isn't already after performing the above steps, select your iPhone from the set of buttons at the top of the iTunes window.
    • If you are using an older version of iTunes, you can select your iPhone from the Devices menu.

Copying Music

  1. Add your music files to your iTunes library. In order to add music to your iPhone using iTunes, you will need to add your music files to your iTunes library.
    • Click FileAdd Folder to Library. If you don't see the File menu, press the Alt key.
    • Select your music folder to add the songs to your iTunes library. Repeat if you have multiple folders.

    • Any music purchased in iTunes will automatically be added to your library.
  2. Convert any protected WMA files. If you're importing music purchased through Windows Media Player, it may have DRM protection that prevents iTunes from importing it.   3. Select your iPhone from the row of buttons at the top of the iTunes window.
  4. Click the Music tab in the left menu.
  5. Check the "Sync Music" box.
  6. Select the artists, albums, playlists, or genres you want to add to your iPhone. You can monitor the free space available on your iPhone using the bar at the bottom of the window.
  7. Click the button. All of the checked music will be copied onto your iPhone.

Copying Images

  1. Select your iPhone from the row of buttons at the top of the iTunes window.
  2. Click the Photos tab in the left menu.
  3. Check the "Sync photos from" box.
  4. Use the drop-down menu to select your Pictures folder. You can choose "Other folder" to browse for any folder on your computer.
    • You can only sync one base folder at a time, but any folders inside that base folder can by synced. For the most control over what is synced, organize all of your photos into one central Pictures folder.
  5. Select whether you want to sync all of the subfolders in your Pictures folder, or specific folders.
  6. Click to begin syncing your selected folders.

Copying Videos

  1. Add your video files to your iTunes library. In order to add videos to your iPhone using iTunes, you will need to add your video files to your iTunes library.
    • Click FileAdd Folder to Library. If you don't see the File menu, press the Alt key.
    • Select the your Videos folder to add your videos to the iTunes library. Repeat this if you have multiple folders with videos on your computer.
    • Any videos purchased in iTunes will automatically be added to your library.
  2. Select your iPhone from the row of buttons at the top of the iTunes window.
  3. Click the Movies tab in the left menu. This will open
  4. Check the "Sync Movies" box.
  5. Check each movie that you want to sync.
  6. Use the drop-down menu to select whether all movies, recent movies, or unwatched movies are synced.
  7. Click to sync the files.
  8. Click the TV Shows tab.
  9. Check the "Sync TV Shows" box.
  10. Check each show that you want to sync.
  11. Use the drop-down menu to select whether all show, recent episodes, or unwatched episodes are synced.
  12. Click to sync the files.
  13. Convert your videos if they aren't syncing properly. iTunes will not sync your videos if the format and encoding is not compatible with your iPhone.
