Many nail art designs require you to be able to make thin or thick stripes on your nails. While it is possible to purchase a "nail striper", the tool that helps you make such stripes and lines, it's just as easy to make your own from old makeup products.

Steps

Using An Old Nail Polish Bottle

  1. Find an old nail polish bottle.
  2. Use a tissue to wipe the polish off the brush. You can also use a cotton ball dipped into nail polish remover for a cleaner striper.
  3. Use scissors to cut some of the brush from the old nail polish stick.
  4. Cut the brush as thinly as possible without cutting the whole brush. Some of the brush is still required to make the stripes.
  5. Run your fingers down the remaining brush strands. This will help to set the thin brush back into place.
  6. To use:
    • Dip the brush stick back into the nail polish bottle.
    • You can create thin or thick lines depending on the pressure you apply.

Using an Old Eyeliner

  1. Find an old eyeliner.
  2. Open the brush.
  3. Clean it.
  4. Dip it in a nail polish bottle. Apply the stripes; as above, you can vary the thickness of the lines depending on the pressure applied.
  5. You're done!

Creating More Colors without Doing it Multiple Times

  1. Remove the striper from the bottle.
  2. Clean the striper with a towel. For a cleaner striper use a cotton ball dipped into nail polish remover.
  3. Dip into nail polish.
  4. Now you can have a striper in every color!

  • Use different colors of nail polish to create different colored stripes.

Warnings

  • Clean the brush thoroughly before you cut it.
  • Do not cut the whole brush away; always leave enough to form the striper.
  • Use appropriate care when cutting.
