Washing soda, sodium carbonate, is an alkaline with a pH of 11, and while it doesn't give off harmful fumes, you do need to wear gloves. It is found in the laundry section of most supermarkets. Arm & Hammer is one example.

Steps

  1. Check the cleaning supply section of your local supermarket.
  2. Visit a swimming pool supply store.
  3. Search for Sodium Carbonate on an auction site.
  4. Sodium Carbonate is also used as a dye fixative known as soda ash.

Warnings

  • Sodium Carbonate can damage the skin, always wear gloves while handling.
