Minecraft is a simulation game in which the player is required to gather resources and build shelter. A community of game developers, programmers, and gamers have created modifications ("mods" for short) to enhance the gameplay experience. MCPatcher is a program that allows these mods to be installed easily without fear of corrupting the game.

Steps

  1. Download the MCPatcher program. There are various websites from where it can be obtained.
  2. Run the application. Mods are loaded from this window, along with several pre-installed mods.
  3. Click the "+" on the bottom of the window. This opens a file browser from which new mods can be added. By default, it opens to the Minecraft installation directory.
  4. Navigate to a mod which is intended to be incorporated. Note that only compressed folders (".zip" files) can be used.
  5. Select the mod, then click "Open". A new windows will open displaying the folders within the archive.
  6. Click "OK". A new window will open displaying the individual files contained in the mod.
  7. Click "OK". The name of the mod will be displayed in a list with those which were preloaded.
  8. Click "Patch". MCPatcher will incorporate the files into the Minecraft game.
  9. Click "Test Minecraft". This will start the game as a test to check if the mod is functioning. A log will be made for troubleshooting purposes. If Minecraft opens with no errors, the mod installed as it should have.
