Ladies, we've all been in that awkward situation where you've got a bit of your lip colour on your teeth. It's very embarrassing, especially when somebody points it out to you out loud. Well, good news, there's a way to prevent this.

Steps

  1. Apply lip balm. Crackled lip colour is almost as unattractive as bright red lipstick on your teeth.
  2. Line your lips. Use a nude shade of lip liner if you'll be applying sheer or neutral lipstick. Otherwise, try to match it to the colour lipstick you'll be wearing.
  3. Fill in your lips with the same lip liner. This provides a base for your lipstick to stick to. Avoid filling in your "inner lips" - where the teeth naturally hits the lip.
  4. Apply your lipstick. Preferably, use a lip brush for this so you have more control of where the colour goes. Be sure to apply your lipstick evenly and within the lip lines. Optionally, apply lipgloss after this step.
  5. Put your finger in your mouth. Form an O with your mouth around your finger, and gently slide your finger straight out of your mouth. Any lip colour that was on your inner lips is now on your finger. This step is crucial, as lip colours on the inner lips will rub off onto teeth after you've left the mirror.
  6. Smile. If you see any lip colour on your teeth, gently rub it off with your pinky finger.

Tips

  • Gently exfoliate your lips with sugar and water before applying lip balm if you've got particularly flaky lips.
  • Refrigerate your lipstick during the summer to prevent it from melting on hot days. The cool temperature of it when you apply it will feel good, too.
  • Apply translucent powder to your lips using a blush brush or cotton ball. Dab powder on your top and bottom lip.
  • You can also dab a bit of Vaseline to your teeth to prevent the lip colour from sticking, however it doesn't taste pleasant.

Warnings

  • Don't keep a tube of lipstick more than 1 1/2-2 years. The quality will lower and germs will be harboring on the lipstick.
  • Wash your lip brush every couple of weeks, at most. Old lip colours will be caught in the brush along with germs, creating a streaky lip.
