Smart TVs with Internet access now allow you to download and install apps you can view and use directly from your television, such as Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, Twitter, eBay, Facebook, and more. Most Smart TVs come with pre-installed apps by default, but if you’re using a Smart TV from brands such as Samsung, LG, and Vizio, you can download and install additional apps that can improve your experience as a user.

Steps

Samsung Smart TVs

  1. Verify that your Samsung Smart TV is connected to the Internet using a wireless or wired connection. An Internet connection is required to add and install new apps.
  2. Power on your television and select “Smart Hub” from the main menu.
  3. Select “Apps,” then scroll to and select “Samsung Apps” using your remote control. A full list of apps and categories will display on-screen.
  4. Browse through apps and categories to find the app you want installed on your television. Examples of categories you can browse are Videos, Games, Sports, Lifestyle, and Education.
  5. Highlight the app you want added to your Smart TV, then select “Enter.
    • Some apps may require you to pay a fee; if you want to install a paid app, follow the on-screen prompts to complete your purchase using Smart Hub.
  6. Verify that “Download” is highlighted, then press “Enter” to begin the download.
  7. Select “Run” to launch the app, or select “Close” to return to the app list when installation is complete. The app you downloaded will now be saved under “My Apps” or “More Apps,” depending on your Smart TV’s available memory.[1]

LG Smart TVs

  1. Verify that your LG Smart TV is connected to the Internet using a wireless or wired connection. An Internet connection is required to add and install new apps.
  2. Power on your television and select “Smart Home” from the main menu.
  3. Select “LG Smart World,” then enter the username and password for your LG TV account.
    • If you do not have an LG TV account, select “Sign up” and follow the on-screen prompts to create an account.
  4. Browse through the available apps and categories to find the app you want installed on your television.
  5. Select an app to review its details, such as the description and cost of the app.
  6. Select “Install,” then review the requirements to verify the app is compatible with your television. Some apps may not be compatible with all models of LG Smart TVs.
    • Some apps may require you to pay a fee; if you want to install a paid app, follow the on-screen prompts to complete your purchase using LG Smart World.
  7. Select “OK” to proceed with the app installation. When installation is complete, the app you installed will display in the “More” folder under Smart Home.[2]

Vizio Smart TVs

  1. Verify that your Vizio Smart TV is connected to the Internet using a wireless or wired connection. An Internet connection is required to add and install new apps.
  2. Power on your television and press the “V” button on your remote. This will access the App Bar.
  3. Use the arrow keys on your remote to highlight either the Yahoo TV Store or CTV Store. Your options will vary depending on the model of your Vizio Smart TV.
  4. Press “OK” to launch the app store. A list of all available apps will display on-screen.
  5. Browse through the app store to find the app you want installed on your television. Examples of app categories you can choose from are Videos, Games, Sports, Lifestyle, Education, and more.
  6. Highlight the app you want added to your Vizio Smart TV, then press “OK.
  7. Use the arrow keys to highlight “Install App,” then press “OK. The app will begin downloading, and display on the App Bar when complete.

Troubleshooting App Installation

  1. Try powering your television off and back on if an app appears to be stuck on the download or installation screen. In some cases, you may need to reset the connection if apps are unable to complete the installation process.
  2. Return to the app store and restart the installation process if your television or Internet powers off during installation. Loss of power could result in the app not installing properly.
  3. Try installing the app on a USB flash drive if your Smart TV lacks the memory needed to install one or more apps.
    • Insert a USB flash drive into an open port on your Smart TV, and browse the “options” menu at the time of installation to instruct your television to save the app to USB.
  4. Try uninstalling and reinstalling any apps that aren’t functioning properly on your Smart TV. In some cases, installation may have been corrupted due to problems with your television or Internet connectivity.[3]

Tips

  • In some cases, Smart TV updates from the manufacturer could result in the deletion of apps you may have downloaded from your Smart TV’s app store. If your system has recently been updated, try reinstalling your favorite apps from the app store if apps have been deleted.

Warnings

  • Keep in mind that most Smart TV apps are developed by third parties independent of your television’s manufacturer, and may not be compatible with all Smart TV models. If you continue to experience ongoing problems with specific apps, contact the developer of those apps directly to verify the apps are compatible for use with your Smart TV.
