The following information is about an online game called "Dark Orbit". "Dark Orbit" is an MMORPG. This game is relatively unknown to most people, in fact most people just stumble upon this game by accident. This lack of publicity is due to a focus on getting people to part with money over providing any sort of quality game experience or support for the player. The following information will help beginners with learning about what to do when you first get into the game and what everything does and what everything means. You can find this game at [www.darkorbit.com]. It is a free online game to a certain extent and you only need to pay for it if you want to upgrade your account to a "better" account, this "better" account comes with some advantages which you can check out on the website.

Dark Orbit has periodic special events offering "fantastic prizes". Beware of these. The fantastic prizes are typically a very small token amount of game currency. You can not ever be sure of your place during the games. In the Summer Games 2010, the rules were changed after the end of the games which resulted in most of the top players placing 20th or lower.

Steps

  1. This first section of information is just a general overview of the game.
  2. First go and earn some money (credits) which can be earned by destroying enemies, collecting rock asteroid material and bonus boxes. When you destroy an enemy, some of its cargo is left behind, which you can collect and sell. - BUT before that, sign up for a "Quest" that gives you EXTRA Credits, Uridium & Experience points for collecting rocks & destroying alien ships.
  3. Collect (from Bonus Boxes) as much ammunition for your lasers and missiles as possible early on in the game if you can, because if you do this early you won't need to for a long time. (Which actually can be a relatively short amount of time if you use your lasers a lot).
  4. Know that when your honor goes into the negative it decreases the amount of credits you get from selling raw materials to your space station, whereas the more honor you have, the more you get for your resources.
  5. Know where your team's space station is. (you start there and it is not easy to forget where it is.) it will be a giant Blue square
  6. There are three teams that you can join, the "Mars mining operations" (MMO), Earth Industrial Corporations, and "Venus Resources Unlimited".
  7. Seek a resource called Uridium which is obtainable by picking up bonus boxes, completing quests and defeating enemies. This resource becomes useful when and if you are killed, to repair your damaged ship. Alternatively, you can buy a different ship or take the starter ship (phoenix) which is free
  8. When you are in a ship that costs credits, always buy another one instead of paying 500 Uridium to repair it.
  9. Uridium and credits are used to buy items; ships, weapons, ammunition. One of the main reasons this game is fun to play is because you are constantly upgrading and maintaining your ship.
  10. Complete quests to gain credits and Uridium. Remember that there are two sources of income, Uridium is better than credits because it's much more valuable and can be used to buy better quality items, but it's harder to obtain. Spend it wisely.
  11. Skylab is a very valuable resource for in game credits. Update your Skylab modules to mine and produce the minerals, then transfer the high value minerals to your ship and sell them. With enough in game credits you do not need Uridium. You can buy anything in the Trade window with enough in game credits.

Tips

  • Remember to pay attention to your laser ammo. Also pay attention to your rocket ammo, but it's much more obvious when your running out of that. You do not have to go back to the stations to resupply your ammo on your ship. Just purchase your ammo and you ship is resupplied no matter where it is.

Warnings

  • While it is useful to figure out how to play Dark Orbit, you still need to figure out why. The free nature is only there to mask the fact that you are compelled to buy in-game cash with real cash. So it is either guard your wallet or be frustrated that you will be destroyed by vastly more powerful players every few minutes. Note that Skylab development can give you more in game credits than you will need, if you do not want to purchase or hunt, or earn your Uridium.
