Reddit is a popular online community created to share stories, pictures and links with other members, called "redditors". Karma is a simple way to evaluate a user's contributions to the Reddit community at large. Karma is displayed as a number next to your username. The more karma you have, the more the other redditors will respect you, communicate with you and pay attention to your posts.

Steps

  1. Go to Reddit.
    • The first page will display a mix of posts from all of your selected subreddits.
  2. Click the "Top" tab to change your view of the top-rated (highest karma, most upvoted) posts.
    • You'll see several tabs at the top of the screen next to the Reddit logo. "What's Hot" is always the default selection.
  3. Browse the titles of the posts, looking for themes, and make a list of high-ranked topics, recurring topics, active subreddits or active themes.
    • Is one particular subreddit very active today? Are there numerous similar titles linking to different material, posted by different users? Are there any topical subjects the redditors seem focused on? This list will help you find the perfect competitive post to earn karma.
  4. Open your favorite image search site in another tab or another window and type in any term from your list.
    • Repeat this step until you find an image that is hilarious, offensive, adorable, confusing or awesome.
  5. Go back to Reddit and click "Submit a link" on the right-hand sidebar.
    • Make sure "link" is selected in the tabs at the top when the page loads.
  6. Copy and paste the URL of the image you've chosen into the URL field.
  7. Type a title in the "Title" field.
    • You want a title that will entice people to click, so try to think of a phrase that will make readers curious. Alternately, you can click "Suggest a title" under the URL field.
  8. Choose the subreddit to which you're posting and enter it in the "Reddit" field.
    • You can also select from the "popular choices" under the "Reddit" field.
  9. Click "Submit."

Tips

  • Interact with the redditors who comment on your link. Karma is a measure of your contributions to the community so contribute above and beyond simple link posts.
  • Regularly submitting content that is interesting, funny or unusual will keep your karma growing. Finding and sharing quality is the best way to gain karma on Reddit.
  • Reddit is a fast-paced community, but it does have recurring themes that are constant across months. These include zombies, pets, amusing family photos or kid photos, pics accompanied by an incredible story and inflammatory or offensive activities by a high-profile corporation or politician.

Warnings

  • Always remember to include NSFW in the title if your post is Not Safe For Work-- in other words, if it contains anything that may be offensive.
  • Never ask for karma or upvotes in the title of your post. This is against Reddit rules and can get your account banned.
  • Redditors don't take kindly to shameless acts of promotion, hate speech or blatant discrimination. There is a "grey area" in which jokes about race, gender or sexual identity are still funny, but, if you think your post might be seriously offensive or hurtful to anyone, don't post it.
