If, for whatever reason, you would like to draw a rock, it can be difficult at first. Read on to find out the secret to drawing rocks!

Steps

  1. Draw an oval. You may want to draw it flat on the bottom, to make to look like it's laying.
  2. Draw a horizon line coming out from the left and the right side of the rock. This shows the boundary between the earth and the sky.
  3. To decorate your rock, you should draw hatch marks to show grass below the lines for ground. You could add a circle above the rock, or emerging out of your rock to show the sun. Add other things like birds, clouds or worms if you wish.
  4. Add shading for value change.

Tips

  • Don't over exaggerate your rock. This will probably be very good picture if you don't add too much.
  • Rocks are very complicated in their own way. Take care to capture the personality of whichever rock that you are drawing. How was their day? Where did they come from? A river? A quarry? Put thought into the rock, it will show in the final drawing.
  • This will be fairly easy if you have drawn a rock before.

Warnings

  • Do not push too hard on your pencil. It will brake the lead, and you'll have to sharpen your pencil. This will ruin your concentration. You need full concentration to draw this figure.

Things You'll Need

  • a pencil
  • a piece of paper
  • an eraser (best if on the pencil)
