This article will tell you how you can create your own airsoft smoke grenade. You can use them in such times as a POW situation, skirmishes, gathering the injured, and more.

Steps

  1. Put potassium nitrate and sugar in a pan at low heat. KNO3:sugar, 3:2 ratio. Stir constantly until looks like peanut butter.
  2. Add colored dye (can use mixtures to create colors), and stir.
  3. Fill card tube with mix.
  4. Push a thick pen, pencil, or chopstick into the mix. then let it set for 1 hour.
  5. When thickened 1 hour later, pull the pen out of the mix.
  6. Insert firework fuse, then cotton ball to hold in place.
  7. Cover the tube with duct tape, but don't forget to leave a small hole at the top, and an optional tiny hole at the bottom. Your smoke grenade is ready.
  8. Go outside and light up the smoke grenade!

Tips

  • If you buy just red, blue, and yellow dyes, you can mix them together to make more colours.
  • To avoid burning yourself, you can add some electrical tape around the grenade, this traps heat and also helps you grenade burn longer!
  • Use in POW, search and rescue, skirmishes , medical missions (rescue the injured from the field, and more situations during airsoft).
  • You'll need a lighter to light the fuse of the smoke grenade.

Warnings

  • KNO3 is slightly toxic so don't breathe too much, just go through. NEVER stay inside the cloud!
  • Be careful, throw it right after or before it ignites because it will get really hot
  • Check with local authorities, as these smoke grenades may be classified as a firework, and fireworks are illegal in many areas.
  • Throw it right away to avoid burns.
  • Use colored smoke so if somebody sees it, besides the other airsofters, they don't think there is a fire and call the fire department and police.
  • Don't throw at people so it doesn't come undone!
  • Always use precaution when playing in a wooded area, or such because of the fuse.

Things You'll Need

  • Potassium nitrate (aka saltpeter or stump remover) is found at garden shops, pharmacies etc.
  • Buy sugar (found at any grocery store).
  • Buy colored dye (found in hobby shops, and places that sell hobby materials)(see why in warnings).
  • Baking soda to slow combustion.
  • A sparkler or firework fuse, or ring ignition(firework fuse works best)
  • toilet paper roll or soda can.
  • Cotton balls.
  • Duct tape.
