Affection is a need of all human beings, but it is not always easy to fulfill it, especially as a single.

Steps

  1. Get a pet if possible. Pets, especially dogs and cats, are always available to give you free, unconditional love. If you are allergic to pets, allergy-free pets are available on the market (at a higher price, though).
  2. Get a friend. Significant Other or buddy. Good friends should acknowledge your need for affection and fulfill it if you ask them.
  3. Participate in a Free Hugs Campaign near you, if any. Otherwise, if you're outgoing enough, create your own.
  4. Join an online community in which you feel comfortable and make friends. Perhaps they live near you, and you can meet up. Or if no one lives near you or you're not allowed to meet strangers, you can still settle with text-based affection, which might not feel real, but if your friend's feelings are genuine and if you put enough thought and imagination into it,you should almost feel it. Use webcam and/or voice chat to feel closer to each other.
  5. Make a blog or use your existing blog if you already have one to express your thoughts and desires. Some readers will understand and offer assistance.

Tips

  • When no one is available, hug a soft object like a blanket or a pillow. It can help.
  • Keep your living environment warm, temperature-wise and color-wise.
  • Volunteer at an elderly group home.

Warnings

  • When meeting and chatting with people online, keep in mind that people are not always who they say they are. If you two decided to meet somewhere, make sure it's (for the first meeting at least) in a public place.
  • Do not turn your need of affection into an obsession.
