Do you want mashed potatoes in a snap? Make some ahead tuck them in a freezer so you can enjoy mashed potatoes in almost no time.

Steps

  1. Use a good mashing variety of potato. For example, a russet or Yukon gold.
  2. Use full fat milk and butter when mashing. This makes for a better result.[citation needed]
  3. Peel the potatoes.
  4. Boil to preference.
  5. Mash. Make sure you use milk and butter or margarine if you prefer but not spread - in your mashed potatoes.
  6. Allow the mashed potatoes to cool thoroughly. Then pop them into a freezer bag or a resealable bag with a zip lock. Release the air and put them into the freezer.

Tips

  • Pour a little extra milk or cream on top of the mashed potatoes before heating them up. Whip the extra milk or cream into the heated potatoes until nice and fluffy.
  • Make sure they are really cool - no warmth at all. If they are frozen warm, the warm potatoes will sweat and when they are frozen, the sweat will form ice that will produce moisture when you defrost the mashed potatoes.
  • Freezing the mashed potatoes make them easier to heat and eat.
