Make a Mailing List in Gmail

If you need to regularly send mass e-mails to the same group of people, creating a mailing list should simplify the process. This wikiHow will show you how to make a mailing list in Gmail.

1. Open Gmail. Click the "Gmail" button on the left.
2. Select the Contacts option.
3. Select the "New Group" option to open it.
4. Give a name to the new group.
5. Click OK to create it.
6. Select the newly-named group to open it.
7. Click on the "Add People" icon to add contacts.

Steps

  1. Open Gmail, and click the "Gmail" button on the left.
  2. Click the Contacts option.
  3. Click the "New Group" option to open it. Give a name to the new group, for example, "Work". Then click OK to create it.
    • You will see a new group shown on the left among the Contacts.
  4. Click on the "Work" group to open it.
  5. Click on the "Add People" icon (see image). It will open a window to start adding contacts to this group.
    • For example, you have a contact named Hennesy, type "Hennesy" in the window. Hennesy's e-mail will pop up. Click on it.
    • Click the "Add" button.
  6. Next, for example, you have Ella in your contacts to add to the group.
    • Type "Ella" in the window. Ella's e-mail will pop up. Click on it.
    • Click the "Add" button.
  7. Continue the same procedure until you enter all your work contacts, their e-mails also will be shown.
  8. The new group "Work" will be shown on your Contacts, with the number of contacts in "Work" in parenthesis.
  9. At this time click the "Contacts" button, then the "Gmail" option to return to the original page.
  10. Click the "Compose" button to start composing an e-mail for the new "Work" group.
    • Enter the word "work" in the "TO:" field. It will bring a "Work group" up into the window,  click on it.
    • All your work contacts will be automatically inserted into the "TO:" field.

Tips

  • It's a good e-mail habit to use a "BCC:" field  (instead of "TO:" field)  if you are mass mailing.
  • You can always delete a group if you no longer need it.
