A strawberry mojito is a terrific summer drink. It’s as colorful as it is refreshing.

Ingredients

Servings: 1

  • 3 to 4 fresh strawberries, de-stemmed (hulled) and cut into small pieces
  • 1 lime, cut into quarters
  • 3 sprigs of mint
  • 1 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 oz. (60 ml) rum
  • Splash of club soda
  • Ice

Steps

  1. Fill the cocktail shaker with the strawberries.
  2. Add the lime.
  3. Add the mint sprigs. Only use the mint leaves and discard the stems.
  4. Add the sugar.
  5. Use a muddler or a blunt kitchen utensil (like the handle-end of a spoon) to mash the ingredients together until they mix into a mash.
  6. Fill the shaker with crushed ice, directly on top of the fruit and mint pieces.
  7. Add the rum. You should see the liquid rise almost to the surface of the ice.
  8. Cover and shake well.
  9. Pour into a tall glass.
  10. Top off with a splash of club soda.
  11. Garnish with a fresh strawberry, stem still intact. It's now ready for serving.

Tips

  • To get the full effect of the colorful ingredients, serve in a tall glass.
  • Dip the glass rim in lime juice and then sugar to get tangy flavor.
  • Extra strawberries and mint sprigs can be used as a garnish.

Warnings

  • Be sure to smash the fruit finely enough; small chunks left in a drink can be a choking hazard because the drinker is not expecting solids.

Things You’ll Need

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler (optional)
