Steps
California Girls Costume
- Acquire a blue wig. Wigs can be found in most Halloween costume shops or can be ordered online. Try to find a long one with blunt straight across bangs.
- Get a pair of glittery blue shorts. They should be fitted and slightly high-waisted. If you can't find a pair of glittered or sequined shorts, you can instead wear regular blue shorts or blue jean shorts.
- Make the cupcake bra. This is the defining piece for this outfit, so you will need to do it right! You can either buy the Katy Perry cupcake bra from a Halloween costume store or make it yourself at home. To make it yourself you will need a basic light blue bra and the following items: two small paper plates, white spackling paste, a paintbrush, super glue, colorful sprinkles, and red gummy candies.
- Lay the paper plates upside down. Dip the paintbrush into the spackling paste and thoroughly coat the rounded bottom of each plate with the paste. Allow the paste to dry for 20-30 minutes.
- Attach the sprinkles individually using super glue. When you are done, super glue one red gummy candy (or "cherry") onto the center of each paper plate. If you don't have red gummies, you can use any other small red object that looks like a cherry.
- Attach the "cupcakes" to the bra. You can either do this by super gluing the plates directly onto each cup of the bra or by gluing a piece of ribbon to the bottom of each plate and then sewing the ribbon onto the bra.
- Do your makeup. Apply your overall foundation as you normally would, and then apply some false black eyelashes to the top of your eyes to achieve the signature wide-eyed Katy Perry look. Smudge on some light pink lipstick, and you're good to go.
Peppermint Dress
- Get a pair of red gloves. Ideally, the gloves should be faux leather or plastic with the fingers cut out.
- Make the dress. The Katy Perry peppermint dress can be ordered from a Halloween costume shop or made at home from scratch. To make the dress yourself, you will need the following items: a short plain white dress, white construction paper, scissors, red markers or paint, a paintbrush, loose silver glitter, clear glue, and super glue.
- Make the peppermints. Cut the construction paper into several (8-10) different sized circles, depending on your personal preference. Use red markers or paint to draw on the swirls of the peppermints. Once the color has dried, spread clear glue onto each piece of construction paper using a paintbrush and then sprinkle on some glitter while the glue is still wet.
- Once the glue has dried, you will need to attach the pieces of peppermint to the dress. You can either do this by super gluing the pieces of paper directly onto the dress or by super gluing fabric or ribbon onto the back of each piece of paper and then sewing the fabric onto the dress.
- Finish off the look. If you have dark brown or black hair, then you're good to go! Otherwise, invest in a black wig or some temporary black hair die. Apply your normal foundation, some red lipstick, and black false lashes.
Dot Candy Dress
- Get a blue wig. Colored wigs can be purchased from most costume shops or can be ordered online. Find a wig that has blunt, straight across bangs like Katy Perry's.
- Optional: curl the wig using a wide curling iron to create loose waves. Spray the wig with hair spray to help hold the waves for longer.
- Make the dress. To make the dot candy dress yourself at home, you will need the following items: a basic white strapless mini dress, blue, pink, and yellow plastic colored easter eggs, and super glue.
- Attach the "dots" onto the dress. To do this, take apart the plastic easter eggs and super glue the bottom half of each one onto the dress. The dots should be placed in even rows onto the dress just like the famous dot candy strips. Be sure to leave enough space in between each one so that plenty of white is still showing.
- If possible, have somebody glue the dots onto the dress while you are wearing it, especially if the dress is stretchy. Otherwise, you may have some weird stretch marks on the dress when you put it on.
- Do your makeup. Put on your normal foundation, and then apply black false lashes to your upper lids. Coat your lips with a light pink lipstick and brush some pink blush onto your cheeks.
Roar Video Costume
- Wear a cheetah print bikini top with a green skirt. You can also add a flower belt; make it by sewing artificial flowers onto a belt.
- Dye your hair black or get a black wig. Wear an artificial flower crown. It should be artificial because this will last longer and won't wilt. Wear light makeup with pink lip balm or lipstick.
- Since the costume is probably for Halloween, you might need a matching bag. Go to the craft store and get a plain white or tan canvas tote bag and use markers to write 'Roar' in bubble letters with a cheetah print pattern; color the background green. You can add some artificial flowers for decoration.

Tips
- Be sure to remove the false lashes before going to bed to avoid irritating your eye. If you accidentally get eyelash glue in your eye, rinse it out thoroughly with cool water.
- Carry some super glue around with you when you wear your costume out just in case a piece of the costume comes apart.
- When choosing a wig, opt for ones with blunt, straight across bangs. Depending on which outfit you choose, you may want to use a wide curling iron to create some loose waves in the wig. Spritz the wig with hairspray to hold the curls for longer.
