Do you want to type in Hindi, Urdu, Persian or Chinese? Google Transliteration is one of the most popular software programs around for typing in languages which many word processing software do not support. The best part is, you can do this with a Roman keyboard! So what will you write?

Steps

  1. Start your download on Google. After choosing your language(there are 22 languages available; you can add multiple languages later), click on download. Choose the place where you want to save the setup. Your download will start automatically.
  2. Click on the icon for the setup where you have saved it. Google Transliteration is automatically installed on your computer after a series of dialog boxes.
  3. After the download, you will see a small toolbar on the screen. This is the Google Language toolbar. It contains many tools, for example char-picker, where you can choose your own characters and type and many such options. You can toggle the language bar by clicking on the button which contains the initials of the language, on your taskbar. Here you can toggle your typing language.
  4. Start typing in any word processor window. It works on websites too, and you don't need internet access to use Google Transliteration. Keep in mind that it uses phonetic language, that means for typing 'garden' in Hindi, if you type 'bageecha' you get बगीचा while if you type garden you get गर्दन.
  5. If you still aren't satisfied, the Google toolbar also gives the option of Char-Picker, in which you can manually enter the letters. It is good for perfectionists.
  6. To toggle the language, simply press the Toggle Language button on the toolbar.
