Sometimes you you have a secret and someone to know the secrets you have so you can talk to someone about it. This article will show you how to do this without your secret being revealed!

Steps

  1. Find that one person who you know. Out of all your potential friends, find the one that you can truly trust. Consider if they have been a faithful friend in the past or if they have ever told you a secret about someone else.
    • People who don't gossip make the best secret keepers.
    • If one of your friend is an introvert, it is highly guaranteed that it is safe to tell him/her. Introverts tend to keep to themselves and don't talk much.
  2. Let that friend know how serious the secret is and that you don't want anyone else to know. If you don't tell them how much the secret matters to you they may be willing to tell people more easily.
    • Be serious about it and keep a serious face and tone when talking about it. Your friend would find it more intimidating and remember serious moments more seriously.
  3. Let that friend know that you are telling them because you know you can trust them. If they know you are counting on them, they have less chance of telling your secret in order to save their reputation as someone who can keep a secret.
    • If you think that your friend might get any ideas, be sure to throw in the meaning of a friend.
  4. Ask them if you can count on them to keep the secret. Even make them promise not to tell if you want more assurance. Don't say "promise you won't break the promise" because they might be annoyed and be less serious about it.
  5. Only if they say yes, should you tell them, and even then be cautious about how much information you give out. Look around and make sure there are no eavesdroppers about. It would give your friend a deeper importance to the secret.
    • Remember to keep that serious look to imply deeper importance.
  6. Don't give out all the information at once, tell them only as much as they need to know. Only tell what you are willing to tell. From time to time, glance around to check that nobody else is around except the two of you. Maintain a cautious speed so that your friend can listen to every word you say. Speaking too fast would usually result in misunderstanding. If you want your friend to grasp every idea and word that spills out of your mouth, speak slowly.
  7. If there are many people around, refrain from telling the secret. Secrets are best told in private so that they don't have a chance of being unintentionally discovered by someone you weren't planning on telling. You might want to take your friend somewhere safe such as your room or the soccer field.
  8. Whisper very softly. You don't want your secret to be heard by anyone else, do you? Make your voice soft, but firm and solid at the same time.

Tips

  • Be careful to tell the person in private; that will eliminate all possibility of anyone overhearing it.
  • Be honest while you tell them. Don't add things to the secret that don't belong.
  • Make sure that you can absolutely trust the person before you tell them.
  • Before telling them anything, look at how they keep other people's secrets. If they don't keep theirs, they probably won't keep yours either.
  • If it is a personal secret like family member (dad) moved out you should tell them so they can help you.
  • Don't stall or the person will just get annoyed and go away.
  • If your friend likes to gossip and can't keep another person's secret, don't tell them anything which you know they might gossip about.
  • It's good to speak softly if you think someone else is around, but sometimes whispering can lead to you having to repeat yourself.

Warnings

  • Make sure you told them secrets before, so you can truly trust them.
  • If your secret is something that is very overwhelming, make sure you don't tell a person who will tell everyone. If your friend has a habit of telling secrets to others, tell another friend instead.
  • If don't want anyone to know your secret, don't tell anyone at all. You would be better off writing it down in a journal or something.
  • Only tell what you are comfortable with telling. Don't let them pressure you into telling them more information about your secret than you are willing to give.
