imo.im is a web-based instant messaging service that allows users to connect to multiple third-party instant messaging networks and communicate via chats consisting of text, video, and voice. Third-party messaging services currently supported by the service include Google Talk, AIM, Myspace, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, and Facebook. The user registration and sign up process requires an existing account with one of the supported third-party messaging services. This article will teach you how to send instant messages on the imo.im service.

Steps

  1. Go to the imo website to sign in using one of the supported, integrated messaging services. Imo.im currently only allows you to sign in using a username and password associated with one of several supported third-party services. Learn how to sign in to imo.im. If you don’t already have an account with one of the supported services, learn how to register for the imo service.
  2. Click a contact from your “IMO Contacts” list to start a new chat. This will automatically open a new conversation in the middle of your screen.
  3. Enter text for your instant message into the text input field attached to the newly opened conversation.
  4. Click the “Send” button next to the text input field to send your IM. Alternatively, you can press the “enter” button on your keyboard to send the IM.

Tips

  • You can change the view mode for your conversations from windowed mode to tabbed mode by clicking the small icons at the top right beside your ‘Buddies’ list.

Warnings

  • You must already have an account with one of the supported third-party messaging services before linking it to your imo account.
