Utilize one of the best research places on earth: the internet! Many websites type up the lyrics to songs so others can use them.

Steps

  1. Think of a part of the song that you can recall. Normally there is a phrase that keeps repeating and repeating when you're trying to find the name of a song, think of that and any other snatches that come to mind.
  2. Get on a computer with internet access, if you don't have one, go to a library, most have free internet access.
  3. Type in "Google.com" or some other such search engine and bring up the page.
  4. Type "Lyrics <insert the phrase of the song here>" into the search bar and click "Search" or press "Enter" on your keyboard.
  5. If you can remember phrases from the lyrics, enclose them in quotes (") eg "hit me baby one more time", then add any other words you remember, the more you can think of the easier it will be to find the particular song you are after.
  6. Click on the first result, and see if that is the song. If it is, hurray for you, if it isn't, continue down the list until you find it.

Tips

  • If you're not sure, you can search the internet for a recorded mp3 or such to listen and make sure that it is the song that you know.
  • if you're searching through an online search engine such as Google, enclose the phrase with quotation marks ("get in the ring" and not get in the ring), so that the engine would search for the phrase as it is, and not as scattered words that just happen to be on the same page. You can also combine several phrases of the song, each phrase enclosed with quotation marks and separated by spaces from each other (this is especially helpful if the phrases that you remember or understand from the song happen to be common lines.
  • If you can't find it, ask people if they recognize the part that you know, or wait until you remember another part of the song.
  • It might be helpful to figure out what type of song it is: ie. soundtrack from a movie, a hip-hop dance, or a popular rock song.

Warnings

  • Be careful about surfing the internet, you never know what is really on websites, so have a filter on.
