One of the most common complaints by dog lovers and owners addresses the bad breath that many dogs have. With this unique three ingredient recipe, your dog's breath will go from drool to cool... literally!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup mint leaves
  • 3-5 salt-free crackers
  • Water

Alternate Method

  • 3½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoon flaxseed oil
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup low-fat milk
  • ¼ cup fresh mint
  • 1/8 cup wheat germ.

Steps

  1. Crush crackers. You'll need enough to stick to the mint. Don't use too many crackers or this will over-power the effect of the mint.
  2. Finely chop mint into pieces.
  3. Mix with crackers and add enough water to allow mint and crackers stick together and form into small {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} balls.
  4. Lay each individual ball on top of waxed paper placed on a plate.
  5. Place into freezer until frozen.
  6. Give to your dogs when needed!

Alternate Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the egg, milk, flaxseed oil, mint leaves, and wheat germ together. Blend in a mixer on low speed for about 30 seconds.
  3. Add 3 cups of flour. This should be done one cup at a time. Increase the mixer speed to medium as you add the flour.
  4. Use 1/2 cup of flour to dust a work station. Use the station to knead the dough and roll it out with a rolling pin. Use a cookie cutter to cut out each biscuit. Place the raw biscuits on the cookie sheet.
  5. Bake for about 30 minutes. Then turn the oven off. However, leave the biscuits inside for another 1-2 hours so that they get crispy.
  6. Let the cookies cool. Then, they're ready to give to your dog! These cookies should last for about a month if they are kept in a dry, airtight container. [1]

Tips

  • Whenever possible, choose fresh mint over the dried form of the herb since it is superior in flavor. The leaves of fresh mint should look vibrant and be a rich green color. They should be free from dark spots or yellowing.
