This punt drop is being taught with instruction from Brendan Carney, Punter for the Baltimore Ravens.
Steps
- Hold the ball, spreading your fingers evenly around it, so it is pointing at 11 o'clock at the front point.
- Extend your arm forward straight at about abdominal level.
- Release the ball so it drops flat. As an exercise, practice drops, the ball should bounce straight back up.
- Start swinging your leg at the same time you drop the ball. When you drop the ball, give it a slight push forward so it hits the exact top of your foot, not the outside to create a spin, but the exact top.
- Swing your leg straight forward, to your shoulder, not to the side. Keep your head down!
- Ensure that your plant foot leaves the ground and travels forward 1/2-1 foot.
- Lock your leg and point your toe straight out and follow through as much as possible.
Tips
- Watch the ball at all times.
- Stretch as much as possible every day, without over doing it, to achieve flexibility and power.
- Do not lean back, keep your body vertical as much as possible.
- Practice every day.
- Practice kicking it to a friend (If Possible)
- Take two steps and on the third step kick.
Warnings
- Remember to stretch before doing lots of exercise and running.
- Be careful not to kick the ball as hard as you can, bringing your leg through too hard and quickly can tear a muscle.
Things You'll Need
- a football
- shoes, or you may prefer to kick barefoot as much as possible to train to lock your ankle out.
