Cooking with leftover potato chips is a great way to add a bit of a savory crunch to just about any dish. This is also an easy way to use up those annoying bits of leftover potato chips that always end up at the bottom of the chip bag. You can add potato chips to cookie dough or make a pie crust with them. You can also consider creating a batter for fried chicken or fish out of potato chips. The options are nearly endless!

Steps

Making Dessert with Leftover Potato Chips

  1. Add chips to cookie dough for a salty crunch. Preheat your oven to {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}. In a large mixing bowl, combine {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of softened butter, {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of white sugar, and one teaspoon of vanilla. Whisk them together until the mixture becomes creamy. Add {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of all-purpose flour slowly, continually mixing as you add a little bit at a time. Slowly mix in {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of crushed potato chips.[1]
    • Spoon the mixture out into small balls on the baking sheet and place it in the oven. Bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until the cookies become golden brown.
    • Let the cookies cool and then serve.
  2. Sandwich potato chips between layers of brownie mix. Preheat your oven to {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}. In a large bowl, combine two sticks of melted butter and {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of bittersweet chocolate chips. Whisk the mixture until the chocolate chips have melted. Add in {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of granulated sugar, four eggs, and one tablespoon of vanilla. Once all of these items are smoothly whisked together, add {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of flour, one teaspoon of baking powder, and three tablespoons of cocoa powder.[2]
    • Spread half of the batter in your baking dish, covering the bottom. Then add a thick layer of potato chips on top and cover this with the remaining brownie batter.
    • Bake in the oven for 45 minutes and let cool completely.
    • Cut the brownies into squares and serve.
  3. Create a simple pie crust out of layered chips. In a large mixing bowl, combine {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of whole milk, {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of sweetened condensed milk, one large egg, and two tablespoons of melted unsalted butter. Mix all of these ingredients together until there are no clumps remaining. Pour the mixture over {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of unseasoned potato chips in a mixing bowl. Toss the potato chips periodically for five minutes while they absorb the liquid, being careful not to break the chips.[3]
    • Spray the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan with non-stick spray and line the chips around the edge of the pan. Make sure you place them all the way up to the rim of the pie pan.
    • Fill the pie with your favorite filling.
    • Consider using chips with ridges because they look nicer and are less likely to break.
  4. Dip leftover chips in chocolate. Use your leftover potato chips to make a sweet and savory chocolate-covered treat. Melt 12 ounces of high-quality melting chocolate in the microwave – use low heat for about 90 seconds (or until completely melted). Dip the chips into the melted chocolate, and then place them on a piece of wax paper. Sprinkle with a bit of sea salt and let the covered chips sit at room temperature for about two hours.[4]
    • If your potato chips are broken into smaller pieces, you can drizzle the melted chocolate over the chip shards instead.
    • If you are in a hurry, you can put the chocolate-covered chips in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes, instead of letting them sit at room temperature.

Creating Entrees with Leftover Potato Chips

  1. Make gourmet sandwiches with added chips. Potato chips can add a savory crunch to just about any sandwich. Try combining several slices of your preferred deli meat, a slice or two of cheese, some dill pickle slices, sliced tomatoes, and two teaspoons of mayonnaise on wheat bread. Stack some potato chips across the top before you add the final piece of bread.[5]
    • Potato chips taste great with almost any savory sandwich, especially when combined with dill pickles.
  2. Whip up a crunchy breaded chicken meal with potato chip crust. Crush {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of potato chips in a large mixing bowl and add one tablespoon of parsley flakes. In a separate bowl, beat one large egg and add two tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce. Clean four boneless skinless chicken breasts and soak them in the egg mixture until they are fully coated. Then coat each chicken breast in the potato chip mixture. Heat two tablespoons of vegetable oil on medium-low heat and place chicken in the skillet.[6]
    • Cook the chicken in the oil for 10-12 minutes until they are golden brown and no longer pink in the center. You’ll need to turn them once while cooking.
    • Try using sour cream and onion chips for added flavoring.
  3. Make potato chip meatballs. Preheat your oven to {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}. In a large mixing bowl, combine {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of lean ground beef, two chopped garlic cloves, two eggs, one small chopped onion, {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of whole milk, {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of breadcrumbs, one tablespoon of parsley, {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of potato chips, and a dash of salt and pepper. Use your hands to squish all of the ingredients together until they are fully mixed into the fold. Shape the mixture into small round meatballs and place them on a baking sheet in the oven. Let them cook for 35-40 minutes.[7]
    • Serve with marinara sauce, or on top of spaghetti.

Cooking Side Dishes with Leftover Potato Chips

  1. Use potato chips instead of bread crumbs. Try sprinkling some crunched up potato chips over some roasted vegetables rather than bread crumbs. Then bake them as you normally would if you were using regular bread crumbs.[8]
    • You’ll need to make sure the chips are crushed finely enough. To do so, you can put them in a food processor. Or you can put them in a sealed plastic bag and go over them with a rolling pin many times.
    • You may need to add a dash of flour and an egg to the crushed chips to create a bit of moisture. Otherwise the chips may not adhere to the vegetables as bread crumbs would.
  2. Make blue cheese potato chips. Combine {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of heavy cream, {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of milk, and {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of crumbled blue cheese in a saucepan and heat it on low heat until the cheese dissolves. Place a thick layer of potato chips on a baking sheet and pour the cheese/cream mixture over the top. Place the baking sheet in the oven on broil and cook until the sauce topping begins to bubble.[9]
    • You can sprinkle ground black pepper on top for additional flavoring.
  3. Spice up your green beans au gratin with chips. Preheat your oven to {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}. Melt four tablespoons of butter in a pan on medium heat. To the melted butter, slowly add four tablespoons of flour, one teaspoon of salt, ½ teaspoon of pepper, and 1/8 teaspoon of dry mustard. Continue stirring and mixing on low heat until the mixture becomes bubbly and has no clumps. Add {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of milk and continue cooking and stirring until the mixture thickens. Then add {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of grated Swiss cheese, blending well, until all the cheese is completely melted.[10]
    • Butter the bottom of a casserole dish and add {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of cooked green beans. Pour the cheese mixture over the top of the green beans and spread it out evenly throughout the casserole dish.
    • Sprinkle {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of parmesan cheese and {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of crushed potato chips on top. Add paprika for flavor.
    • Bake at {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} for thirty minutes.
