Many people love the long, dark, beautiful, healthy looking hair a lot of Asian models/actresses have. While such hair is associated with Asian heritage, many non-Asians have it as well.

Steps

  1. Conditioning. This is the most important step for beautiful, healthy hair. Make sure your hair is kept in good condition by using either a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner or use a deep conditioner and leave it on your hair for 3 minute at least once or twice a week. The same applies for if you have hair in bad condition.
  2. Cut. This goes along with the first step and affects the condition of your hair. There is no specific cut to get, but make sure your hair is regularly trimmed (whether you are growing it out or not) to get rid of dry, unhealthy, fried, or split ends. This is especially important if you use heat tools.
  3. Try to keep usage of heat tools to a minimum. These include (but are not limited to): Blow dryers, flat irons, rotating irons, hot rollers, and curling irons. Any amount of heat is damaging to your hair, just like the elements (rain/wind cause breakage) but heat is worse by far. By keeping your usage of heat tools low, you will ensure proper hair growth with less breakage and healthier ends. Not using heat tools at all would be the highest preference of course, but if you feel you have to, then once or twice a month is acceptable and once a month optimal.
  4. Chemicals- do not use any kind of chemical treatment on your hair, such as relaxers, perms, hair dye, highlights/foiling, or any other permanent/semi-permanent chemicals. These are extremely bad for your hair and again induce breakage and fried, frizzy, dry, coarse looking and feeling hair after repeated use.
  5. Foods- Remember, you are what you eat, and what you put in your body shows in your hair. Stay away from junk food/fast food/foods high in fat and sugar. Fresh fruits and vegetables are good for your hair, especially ones high in protein such as: beans/lentils, spinach, broccoli, dark green-leafy veggies and any kind of beans. Fruits include Brazil nuts, peaches, and figs. Meat and fish are also high in protein. Protein contains important amino acids which build/support bonds in hair and nails - in other words, prevent breakage.
  6. Oils/Treatments- This again goes along with Conditioning. Certain treatments are okay, as long as they are NATURAL- this include herbal soaks and oils. Oils, specifically coconut oil and olive oil are long known to be extremely good for your hair. For optimum results, use once a week. To use, apply about a cup or so (or however much you need to cover all hair) into your hair and wrap in a towel- let it sit for at least an hour. Then, rinse it out and wash your hair as you normally would. Some people prefer not to use oil because it cause showers/drains to become messy, but most who use oil say its definitely worth the extra cleaning.

Tips

  • Be confident in your hair! Doing so shows you care and are proud of it!
  • Don't worry too much about what others think of you.
  • Don't freak out if you can't exactly capture the "Asian" look. Some hair types just aren't meant for it. Learn to love your hair the way it is.
