Forwarding your calls to another phone number can increase your availability; especially if you are planning on being away from the telephone that is diverting calls to another number for an extended period of time. Examples of instances in which you may want to forward your calls are when you go on vacation, or encounter an emergency that requires you to be away from your home phone. To forward your home phone, or landline, to a cell phone, you must first consult with your landline service provider to verify that call forwarding is an option. In most cases, you can then enter numerical codes using your home phone to initiate call forwarding; however, the exact codes may differ depending on your landline service provider and the region in which you live. Continue reading this article to learn about the steps you must take to forward calls from your home phone to a cell phone.

Steps

Consult with your Landline Telephone Service Provider

  1. Contact your home telephone service provider to verify you can activate call forwarding. The ability to forward calls from your home phone may depend on your current service plan, or on the features provided to you by the telephone company.
  2. Ask your home telephone company to verify the fees and charges associated with call forwarding. Some service providers may include the call forwarding feature with your current telephone plan; whereas other companies may charge you an extra fee per minute for all calls that have been forwarded.
  3. Obtain the instructions for activating and deactivating call forwarding. The exact procedure for call forwarding may vary depending on where you reside. In most regions of North America, you can enable and disable call forwarding by entering certain numerical commands using your telephone keypad.

Activate Call Forwarding

  1. Enable the dial tone of your home phone. This can be accomplished by picking up the receiver or pressing the call button on your cordless telephone.
  2. Dial or press the star key, followed by the numbers 7 and 2.
  3. Listen for a dial tone after you have entered the code.
  4. Enter the 10-digit cell phone number you want your home phone calls forwarded to.
  5. Dial or press the pound key to initiate call forwarding when you have finished entering the cell phone number. Going forward, when individuals dial your home phone number, their calls will be routed directly to your cell phone instead.
    • In some cases, you may receive an automated response that confirms you have activated the call forwarding service.

Deactivate Call Forwarding

  1. Initiate the dial tone on your home telephone.
  2. Use the keypad on your telephone to enter or dial the star key, followed by the numbers 7 and 3. Your call forwarding will now be deactivated, and all calls that were previously routed to your cell phone will now ring through to your home phone.

Tips

  • If you only want calls forwarded to your cell phone when your home telephone is busy, or when there is no answer, enter the star key followed by the numbers 6 and 8, instead of star-7-2. This feature can then be deactivated later by entering star-8-8.
