Have a passion for rocking the moves on stage? Do circles naturally form around you at clubs and dance parties? You sound like the perfect candidate to recruit some friends and start your own dance crew! It's a great way to choreograph new routines, work with different song mixes, and to enhance your dance repertoire. You may even be featured on America's Best Dance Crew one day!

Steps

  1. Recruit dancers for your team. There are several ways to do this:
    • Put up flyers. Depending on the age group and style of your dances, good places to put up flyers would be high schools, YMCAs and recreational centers, dance studios, and community centers.
    • Word of mouth or networks. Tell people about your dance crew. Let them know all the details and audition dates. Or, you may already know who you want to include in your dance crew!
    • Internet. The internet is an excellent place to recruit your dance crew members! Put up a video on YouTube, tweet about it, post it up on Facebook or
  2. Auditions are a great way to determine who will and won't make the team. Set up a time and place (that has plenty of space), and bring along speakers, a CD player, and a few CD's. Remember- it's not necessarily about all the cool moves they can do, but if they have rhythm or potential.
  3. Come up with a name. This could even be done before the previous step, but typically it is done after. Make it something memorable, but not to long.
  4. Choreography the moves for your dance. Also try making your own tracks to fit your routines, you don't have to use what's already out there! Be imaginative with your routines.
  5. Rehearse. Practice makes perfect! Make sure each individual rehearses at least every other day and try to organize a crew rehearsal once a week to just have fun but to also create new routines.
  6. Try auditioning for a dance crew show. (See tips if out of range or unsuccessful). Or to get started, do some dancing at school or at parties. Make a name for yourself among friends and soon the word will spread.
  7. Get noticed. Work hard. Have fun. If you aren't having fun, you won't want to work hard and you won't get noticed. Having fun may be the most important element in a dance crew.

Tips

  • Make sure your crew works as a team and a family. Crews that fight a lot don't last long.
  • Be original. Don't steal stuff from other crews because bad stuff will happen.
  • Always Give 100%.
  • Practice as much as possible.
  • Have fun. Don't take things way too seriously.
  • Do as much underground battles as you can. You'll get experience, and get better every time.
  • When your experienced and your ready to battle, enter battles such as: Body Rock, World of Dance, FUSION, etc.
  • If your crew wants to battle, but you feel like they're not ready, don't battle. You'll most likely embarrass yourself and your crew.
  • Audition at least 60 people or more. Send flyers or use a youtube audition.

Warnings

  • Don't bad mouth other crews, let your moves do the talking.
  • * Do not steal moves and ideas from other crews. Even if they're your enemies.
  • Do not attempt to do any dangerous dance moves unless you're really sure you can.
  • Do not challenge any other crew that's better than you or more experienced at dancing.
