People love their custom content - even more so when it's a mod! With TS2, We were given the ease of ready made folders (Downloads and SavedSims) but when TS3 was released, people needed help when they wanted to install mods. This article will let you know how to add mods to your game without the struggle of Helper Monkey that is no good with the newer patches.

Steps

  1. Open your Sims 3 Folder.
    • Open the mentioned directory
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 (For 64 bit windows)
      C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 (For 32 bit windows)
  2. Inside the root The Sims 3 folder, make another folder. This should be called Mods.
  3. Open your internet browser. Using a search engine, search for the following document: Resource.CFG. This is a CFG file and you can safely download this from any Sims 3 fansite or Simpedia.
  4. Put this file Resource.cfg file in the root folder of The Sims 3.
    • Now, you should also create one or two subfolders as mentioned in Resources.cfg file i.e "Files" & "Packages". Only have a maximum of FIVE folders else the game will start to run slowly. You must NOT put anything other that .PACKAGE files in any of those folders and anything not in the folder won't load.
  5. Search around and download cool packages for the Sims 3.
  6. Create a new folder inside the "Mods" folder, named "Packages."
  7. Download as many Mods as you want and save your *.Package file in PACKAGE folder in MODS directory. Enjoy!

Warnings

  • Make sure you get any downloads from a good, reliable place. Anything not a Mod might be found at: simsmaker.com; parsimonious.org; modthesims2.info. Mods might be found at modthesims2.info.
