Xbox One and Xbox 360 are both popular video game consoles. You can play games offline, or create an Xbox Live profile to play online against other users. If you've changed to the Xbox One and want to keep your progress in various games, you can transfer your Gamertag (Xbox Live profile) from the prior console to the new one.

Steps

Transferring Gamertag with Xbox Live Log In

  1. Turn on the Xbox One. Locate the power button and press it to turn on.
  2. Access the sign-in page. Progress to the section where you need to sign-in using your Microsoft account.
  3. Enter the necessary information. You will need to provide the e-mail address associated with your previous Gamertag.
  4. Enter your password. Once you submit the information your Gamertag will automatically link to your Xbox One.

Transferring Gamertag with Portable Storage Device

  1. Make sure your Xbox 360 is turned on. If it isn't press the power button and wait for the main screen to load. Connect your USB/portable device in one of the ports located on the console.
  2. Navigate to the "Storage" settings. You will need to choose "Settings," then select "System." "Storage" will be an option that appears in the System menu.
  3. Select your gamer profile. You can choose the gamer profile you would like to copy onto the USB device by accessing "All Devices," then selecting "Profiles."
  4. Copy the profile to the portable device (USB or memory unit). Once you've selected the gamer profile you want to move, select "Move," and select the memory unit you want to move it to.
    • Moving the gamertag from the console will permanently delete it - you can re-establish it by connecting the USB device again and following the prompts.
  5. Finish the transfer. Once the profile is finished copying, remove the USB device. Connect it to the new console and follow the same process to download it.

Tips

  • Keep in mind that you will retain the same subscription. So let's say you have 6 months left on your Xbox Live subscription when you were still using your Xbox 360, you will still be able to play online for 6 months on the Xbox One. After the 6th month, you will then need to subscribe once again.
