You can close tabs on your Galaxy S3 from the Recent Apps list. The Task Manager can be opened from this list as well, which will show you which apps are using the most system resources. If your web browser has a lot of tabs open, they can be closed from the browser's tab list.

Steps

Closing Recent Apps

  1. Press and hold the Home button. The Home button is the large physical button at the bottom of the S3's screen. Hold this for about 2-3 seconds. You can do this from any screen.
  2. Find the app you want to close. Swipe up and down to view all of the apps in the list.
  3. Swipe a tab left or right to close it.
  4. Tap "X" or "Remove all" to clear all the apps. This button can be found in the lower-right corner of the tab list.[1]

Using the Task Manager

  1. Press and hold the Home button. Hold the Home button for about 2-3 seconds.
  2. Tap the "Task manager" button. It may look like a pie chart, or it may say "Task manager." The button is in the bottom-left corner of the recent app list.
  3. Find the apps that are consuming the most resources. A list of active applications will be displayed. You can see each running app's RAM and CPU usage. The most resource-hungry apps will be at the top of the list.
  4. Tap "End" next to an app you want to close. This will force the app to quit, freeing those resources.
  5. Tap "End all" to close all active apps. Any apps you have open will be closed.

Closing Browser Tabs

  1. Tap the web browser app. The process is similar for most Android browsers, including the stock Internet app and Google Chrome.
  2. Tap the Tabs button. The location varies depending on your browser, but is located in the upper-right corner in the stock Internet app and in Chrome.
  3. Find the tab you want to close. Swipe up and down to see all of the tabs in the list.
  4. Tap the "-" or "X" on the tab to close it. You can also swipe the tab to the left or right to get rid of it.

Tips

  • Removing an app from the recently used list will fully close the app but won’t uninstall it.
  • If you clear up the RAM, some applications will take a little longer to open. This is normal since the space in the RAM it recently occupied was just cleared.
