By straight definition, unconditional love is hard to really define clearly. This in itself can cause a great deal of confusion. Here is how to define what it means to love without limits or conditions.

Steps

  1. Look at the word "love". Define it in simple terms. Love is: a deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person. Yet, these sound like conditions (a mode or state of being).
  2. Look at the word "unconditional". Unconditional means: without conditions or limitations.
  3. Ask yourself:
    • Are there any conditions or limitations that would govern my ability to continue to love this person?
    • Would this person have to maintain any standard for me to continue to love this person?
    • Did love exist before any conditions in the relationship availed itself?
  4. Accept that many people have many ideas of what love is. Your idea is more than likely different from the next person's. No doubt you have experienced love in many forms. Love exists regardless of the circumstances. Consider defining unconditional love to be that "Love just is". There is so many ideas on this subject that one can just get lost in all of them. If love just is, then it is without any conditions.
