Type the Trademark Symbol

This article explains how to type the trademark symbol as seen here ™ or here ®.

Steps

Trademark Symbol ™ on Windows

  1. Make sure that Num Lock is on.
  2. Hold down the Alt key.
  3. Type 0153 on the numeric keypad.
  4. Release the Alt key. The trademark symbol should come up.

Registered Trademark Symbol ® on Windows

  1. Make sure that Num Lock is on.
  2. Hold down the Alt key.
  3. Type 0174 on the numeric keypad.
  4. Release the key. The registered trademark symbol will appear.

Trademark Symbol ™ on Mac

  1. Hold down the Option key. On a UK Mac Keyboard hold down both Option and Shift.
  2. Press the "2" key. Do not use the numeric keypad.
  3. Release the Option key. The trademark symbol ™ should come up.

Registered Trademark Symbol ® on Mac

  1. Hold down the Option key.
  2. Press the "r" key.
  3. Release the keys. This will create the ® symbol.

Easy Copy-Paste Method

  1. Locate the symbol you want. Find the symbol written in some document or web-page using your computer. You can even use the examples above!
  2. Copy it. Copy it to clipboard with your favorite method, such as the Ctrl-C shortcut.
  3. Paste it. Paste into your document where you want it using the Ctrl-V shortcut, or other methods.
  4. Done! It's as easy as that. If you don't have to use this symbol very often, this is probably the easiest method.

Tips

  • The trademark symbol can also be created on Windows using Character Map, and on Mac OS X using Character Viewer.
