This article will show you how to make a CCTV with an old webcam and a laptop, desktop computer or a mac.

Steps

  1. Boot up your computer and set it up somewhere appropriate.
    • You could make a little area near your desk or in your room where you can easily view what is going on via the webcam.
    • Make sure there are no obstructions or non-computer friendly things nearby e.g. Water taps, Unsafe sockets etc.
  2. Place the webcam wherever wanted maybe on a curtain rail, or outside a door etc...
    • Find creative places to put it so you can easily spy on whatever you want or keep watch on a special area. Use your imagination!
  3. Plug the webcam in and attach it using duct tape or screws for a more permanent hold. Make sure that where you have put it is safe and no water can get on the webcam.
  4. You may need to obtain and extension cable to connect your computer to the webcam.
  5. Open windows movie maker and view!
  6. Enjoy!

Tips

  • If you have some spare money, consider investing in wireless CCTV systems.
  • Make sure your webcam works with the operating system your using e.g. Windows Vista, Windows 7 etc.
  • Make sure there is plenty of wire spare.
  • Don't be obvious when it comes to putting your camera somewhere. Try putting a bland cover on it, to minimize the chance of it being seen.

Warnings

  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions when installing webcam to your device (PC/Mac)
