This unique "S" (or "8" in some perspectives) is much easier than it looks. Just draw a few straight lines, connect them, and it looks like an 8 or an "s".

Steps

Basic Method

  1. Start by drawing a grid. Create the grid by drawing eleven horizontal lines to divide 10 spaces on the rectangle.
  2. Then draw now 7 vertical lines for 8 spaces on the rectangle.
  3. Next is to mark the small squares to form a thick letter “S” on the grid.
  4. Then using the marks on the grid, draw straight lines in a zigzag pattern and connect the marks to each other.
  5. Keep connecting the marks and draw again straight lines to fill the space on the letter.
  6. Apply again the previous step until you fill the space of the letter. Don’t worry if the lines crisscross and overlap each other.
  7. Finally, outline the shape of the letter after filling the space with crisscross lines.
  8. Ink over your drawing using a pen or marker and carefully erase your penciled grid. You now have a letter “S” made entirely of straight lines.

Quick Method

  1. Draw 3 lines next to each other but spaced apart.
  2. Draw another 3 lines directly under the 3 that you've just drawn.
  3. Connect the leftmost top line to the middle bottom line.
  4. Connect the middle top line to the rightmost bottom line.
  5. Connect the line on the bottom left to the middle of the left diagonal.
  6. Connect the top right line to the middle of the right diagonal.
  7. Create the top of the "s" by adding a point.
  8. Create a similar point on the bottom to finish.
  9. Color in your "s" to spice it up! This is entirely optional.

Tips

  • For the second method, try making an entire graffiti alphabet with the same diamond shape.
  • Use a pencil first then trace on top with pen or markers.
  • When drawing the first lines after the two sets of three lines, make sure to make the "S" go the right direction. It is annoying spending all this time to draw a cool looking "S" only to have it backwards.
  • If you can't draw straight lines, use a ruler for crispness.
  • For making an even cooler "s" just curve the top of the "s" and the bottom of the "S"! Or just make it all wiggly!
  • Repeat steps 2-6 multiple times to create a curled rope instead of an "S".
  • Alternatively, you can use horizontal lines in steps 5 and 6 instead of diagonals. This will give the picture much more of an "S" shape and less of an "8," but it doesn't have as continuous an effect if you want to make a rope.
