Dressing Emo on a hot, sticky day can be very difficult; you're used to wearing skinny jeans, hoodies and dark coloured clothes in general, but the sun is beating down, and you keep passing people dressed in nice, cool shorts and t-shirts. Want to know how to dress Emo but be comfortable at the same time? Read on to find out...

Steps

  1. You might want to wear shorts with studded belts, and maybe some leggings underneath, plaid skirts are nice or just petticoats! You can find tank tops with band logos at stores like Hot Topic. You can also wear rockabilly style dresses that have skulls or something on them, or a goth loli dress. T-shirts with cartoons and such on them are getting a bit overrated nowadays and a lot of wannabes can be seen running around wearing them, so if you don't want to be like a wannabe, stay classy but with a bit of edge instead of wearing a blindingly bright Care Bear shirt that looks like something a 10 year old would wear.
  2. In the summer, bulky shoes can get uncomfortable and start to smell, so it would be best to wear flats or sandals. Maybe even Ballet shoes!
  3. If you are used to wearing dark makeup, that's fine, but make sure your eyeliner is pencil and your mascara is waterproof due to the fact that you might start to sweat. Don't plaster it on, or you will get very uncomfortable.
  4. For hair accessories, wear bandanas or whatever, and for styling your hair, you could put it in a ponytail with the hair closer to your face staying down with your bangs either pinned back or down to help cool you off. If you can't tease your hair properly, then don't! (No matter what time of the year.)
  5. Try to invest in some sunscreen or sunglasses to keep you pale, but it's okay to be a bit tan as long as you don't look like a carrot from the Jersey Shore.
  6. Don't be afraid to experiment! Feel free to add your own unique taste to your wardrobe and mix n' match different styles! You should also have at least a bit of colourful things in your wardrobe such as pink teal greens and blues to make your outfits more fun
  7. You don't have to have black hair to be emo. The most important thing is mostly the hair style not the colour so if you are not allowed to dye your hair, don't worry. Natural gingers are totally awesome looking when they have the right hairstyle. The same goes for brunettes and blondes. You just have to find the right clothes/accessories that go with your hair.
