Mac OS X has an app management system called Mission Control allows you to quickly and easily manage multiple Desktop Spaces, application windows, and more. This article will walk you through the process of forcing an app to open in a specific desktop space within Mac OS X Lion.

Steps

  1. Click the new Mission Control icon in your dock to launch the application.
    • Alternatively, swipe three fingers up on your trackpad to launch Mission Control.
  2. Select the desktop space you want a specific app to open in from the upper row within the Mission Control interface. You will instantly exit Mission Control to the Space you’ve selected.
  3. Right-click the application you want to always open in the currently active desktop space from your dock.
  4. Select “Options” from the context menu followed by “This Desktop” under the “Assign To” heading.

Tips

  • You can open Launchpad in OS X Lion using custom shortcuts or hot corners by setting them in System Preferences.
  • Swipe between pages of apps in Launchpad by clicking and holding your mouse while making a swiping gesture left or right, or use a two finger gesture on your trackpad.
