Have you been brushing your hair, and it was so full of tangle that the brush got stuck? Well, it may seem impossible to survive, but here are some simple steps on how to get the brush out.

Steps

Pulling the hair loose

  1. Don't tug. Tugging or pulling will only cause the brush to stick more, by tangling the hair further.
  2. Loosen the hair. Use a pencil. Stick it in gently and maneuver it around a little to pull up the hair. If you can't see what you're doing, find someone to help you.
  3. Pull a small amount at a time, gently loosening the hair strand by strand.
    • Work from the inside outward.
  4. Do this slowly. It'll take time and requires a gentle touch. When you're done, pull the rest of the brush free.
  5. Remove hairs from the brush that are stuck in it. Wash it out and let it dry.
  6. Use a different brush or wide-toothed comb to finish your hair grooming for this day. This will give the hair time to settle and brush time to dry. You might even prefer to wash and condition your hair before attempting to brush it again.

Destroying the brush

If you can't get your hair out of the brush, you'll need to consider destroying the brush. It's either the brush or your hair and your hair is far more valuable.

  1. Cut off the brush bristles. Cutting off the bristles might seem a harsh thing to do, but it's better than cutting the hair.
  2. Use scissors to carefully cut each bristle off. Don't cut your hair while cutting the bristles off. If you cannot see what you're doing, have a family member or friend help with this.
    • Wire pliers also work well, They'll be faster, and do a better job.
  3. Once you're done with cutting the brush bristles off, snap the handle of the brush. Using wire-pliers, put a towel over the handle, get your start, and snap off the handle. This will make it easier to get the brush out.
  4. Gently, untangle the hair, by getting it off, one side of your brush. Do this slow and steadily, and be patient. Try to figure out where the worst knots are, and slowly pick them out. If it hurts, stop. Gently pull of some of the hairs, until all the hairs are off.
  5. Once you get your hair out of the brush, dispose of it. Wash your hair, with shampoo conditioner, dry it, and brush it out with a comb or another spare brush.
