Tired of simply shooting rubber bands off your thumb? Want a new kind of fun? Well, the cardboard rubber band gun is your best bet! It can provide hours of entertainment inside (or outside, preferably) your own home and requires little more than 15 minutes' work.

Steps

  1. Gather the materials listed in the Things You'll Need section below.
  2. Measure out an 8 x 12 inch rectangle on the cardboard. Cut out the rectangle.
  3. On the eight inch side of the rectangle carefully put dots every two inches of cardboard. The measurements do not have to be exact.
  4. Hook an old-fashioned clothespin to the end of the barrel or bore a hole through the edge of the paper and stick in a pencil. This is where you will hook the rubber band for firing.
  5. Fold the cardboard into fourths, making a rectangular prism and folding the cardboard on the dots. The cardboard should now measure into four 2 x 12 inch sections.
  6. Cut a strip of masking tape that is approximately {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} long. Connect the two {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} ends of the cardboard. You now have built the body of the gun.
  7. Tape the clip securely to the barrel as shown.
  8. Hook an old-fashioned clothespin to the end of the barrel or bore a hole through the edge of the paper and stick in a pencil. This is where you will hook the rubber band for firing.
  9. Open the clip and hook on a rubber band. Now stretch the rubber band and hook it over the old-fashioned clothespin or pencil.
  10. Fire away! Aim at a target non-living and open the clip.

Tips

  • You can put one mechanism on each of the four sides and load them all. Fire one at a time or in groups.
  • You may want to experiment with other gun barrel types such as PVC, wood, or even metal, if you can get your hands on some.
  • Use a wooden clothespin and hot glue it to the cardboard square to fire push the pin down.
  • If you don't have any old-fashioned clothespins, you can always just stick a pencil into the cardboard. It works just as well.
  • When firing, try to use as small a rubber band as possible in order to increase firing range and speed.

Warnings

  • Do not point at someone else when the rubber band gun is loaded. If you fire the rubber band, or if it slips out of the clothespin, it will sting.
