Find Raves

While you may love the idea of going to a rave and dancing the night away, it can be difficult to find out when and where there will be a rave near you. Especially if you have never been to a rave before or do not have any contacts inside the rave scene. So you've found your perfect rave outfit, you've found your favorite DJ's and you've learned your dance moves but you have no idea where to go from there. It happens to countless new ravers, but once you're in the scene it becomes much easier I promise so let's get you moving to that sick beat.

Steps

  1. Check the App Store or Google Play. There are some good resources like RollRandom that will help you locate local raves and ravers.
  2. Look online. This one can solve the problem very easily. There are raver message boards and forums online where you can obtain information about an upcoming rave near you. Try looking at a ravers message board, social networking site or a similar website. These can be very helpful in finding a nearby rave.
  3. Search by DJ. Try finding out when your favorite DJ is in town on a tour. Check their website, also their Facebook or Myspace page if it exists(most DJ's have at least one). These pages usually say the dates and locations of any shows on their tour.
  4. Find friends to go with you. If you can get a few friends excited about going to a show, you'll have more than just yourself searching for one. Two heads are better than one.
  5. Ask around, if you know or see anyone around who you know goes to raves, ask them about them. A good start may be as simple as "Hey I heard you were a good person to talk to about finding a rave nearby." or "Hey I'm trying to find out where the next rave is around here, have you heard anything?" Much of the initial information about raves travels by mouth from raver to raver. Gossip is a great place to start
  6. Gather Fliers. Many raves are heavily promoted at the previous rave. Once you find your way into one, it becomes exceedingly simple to find the next one. In fact, you may have more fliers than you bargained for by the end of the night.
  7. Take action. If you sit there and stare at the date without buying a ticket you could show up and find that it is sold out. Buy your tickets as early as possible and make sure you have enough for everyone in your group. Buying early can also get you a very good deal, as tickets cost more the closer the event is and are generally much more expensive at the door.
  8. Don't forget about the rave! It can be easy to buy your ticket so early and become burnt out on the excitement. If you stash your ticket in a drawer somewhere you may completely forget the rave is even happening in the months it can take to wait for it to arrive. Put your ticket somewhere you can see it, if you're worried about misplacing it and need to stash it away somewhere make sure you have some way of reminding yourself about the rave. A picture on the refrigerator or a countdown to the rave can help you remain as excited as the moment you saw that your favorite DJ was playing at a venue nearby.

Tips

  • Follow P.L.U.R. Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect.
  • Charge your phone. Enough said
  • It is usually best to rave with some friends you trust, these people can make dancing much easier and can help keep each other out of trouble.
  • Talk to people. Whether you're waiting in line to get inside or taking a break at the bar, talk to the people around you. It's best to do this in an area where you can hear each other as it can sometimes become almost impossible to hear someone who is screaming in your ear. Generally however the people at raves are helpful, friendly, encouraging and fun loving. Everyone is there to have fun and meeting new people can greatly enhance your experience.
  • Make sure you have a plan. It can be easy to lose your group in the crowd. make sure you establish a meeting place, trade phone numbers, and make sure everyone knows where the car is parked. Ensure that at least one person will remain sober to drive everyone back.
  • Put money away early for the rave. Consider ticket prices, food and drink prices and possible merchandise.
  • Respect others dancing room. Don't flail around as raves can become very tight quarters. If you stay in your area, others will stay in theirs. A little nudge and bump is no big deal, just try not to knock anyone around.
  • There are rave specific vitamins sold by certain companies that can greatly assist you in having a fun time without becoming exhausted or fatigued. These are dietary supplements that provide the above vitamins in specific dosages for days before, during, and after the rave.
  • Get plenty of rest the day before the rave. Try not to sleep the day of as it can make you drowsy and slow moving and can ruin your night.
  • Some other helpful vitamins are B6, C, E, and Magnesium.
  • If you're allowed to bring water in (unlikely) do it! You can become very dehydrated at a rave and there is no bigger party foul than heat exhaustion.
  • Try to eat healthy before the rave. Get plenty of Alpha-Lipoic-Acid. This will provide protection against free radicals and detoxifies the liver while increasing blood flow
  • Park where you're supposed to. Too often do people try to park down the street to avoid paying for parking only to find that their car has been towed. These people can be left cold, alone, and broke on the street trying to call someone to pick them up or lend them money to get the car back.
  • Have fun! Let the music guide your body and let yourself open up to the world, don't be afraid to be the brightest firefly in the room full of dim candles who are too afraid of themselves to let the beat move them.
  • If you try to buy your glowsticks/kandi at the rave, you'll probably be overcharged. try a nearby dollar store for glowsticks. Sometime you get lucky and find them in bulk. Kandi is often homemade and can be made by yourself. That way it's much more meaningful.

Warnings

  • Be careful of glowstickers. They can be amazing to watch but they cannot see everywhere at once and glowsticks can be painful even for the glowsticker himself. Give each glowsticker ample room beyond the radius of his strings to avoid getting hit or interfering with the pattern as the dancer can then become confused and hit himself or herself.
  • Raving alone can be very dangerous. If nobody there knows you, you can become very vulnerable.
  • Avoid all "Debby Downers". They can kill the mood and ruin your night so try to associate with people who are just there to kick it and dance to some amazing music.
  • Drugs are a common part of raving culture and you should be careful not to leave your drink anywhere unattended and if it has a cap, use it. You do not want to wake up not knowing what happened the night before.
  • Raving is about having fun and as long as you retain your common sense you should be just fine. Follow your instincts and if you feel the need to partake in the drug use be wary of who your accepting substances from. Follow your gut and trust your instincts. Don't accept anything from the guy that gives you chills or that won't stop staring at you. Bad idea.
