Whether you have straight hair, curly hair or a mixture of both, creating a curly bun is a great low maintenance look that gets your hair out of your face. Achieving the look is simple and the end look is chic and playful. Here are two easy ways to learn wikiHow to make a curly bun.

Steps

With a Curling Iron

  1. Blow dry your hair to give it body. Make sure that there are no tangles in your hair. Add an anti-frizz serum, if needed. For a tutorial, visit wikiHow to Blow Dry Your Hair.
  2. Curl your hair. You can use a traditional curling iron to achieve this. For other methods, visit wikiHow to Curl Your Hair.
    1. Try wrapping sections of your hair around the barrel of a hot curling iron. Do not use the clamp to hold your hair, this will cause crimping at the end of the curl. Instead hold it gently with your fingers.
    2. Hold it. You should hold for 5-10 seconds depending on the thickness of your hair.
    3. Release the curl. Spritz the curl lightly with hairspray.
    4. Gather the curl and pin it. Create a perfect circle by lifting up the curl and compressing it gently. Using a bobby pin, pin the curl.
    5. Continue until all of your hair is pinned.
    6. Spray your entire head with hairspray. Then remove all of the bobby pins. Your curls should be both tight and should hold well.
    7. Gently shake the curls loose. Do not use a brush, instead use your fingers.
  3. Tease the crown of your head. Using a comb or a small teasing brush, gather the hair at the top of your head and gently tease the back of it.
  4. Create a ponytail. Using just your fingers (not a brush), gather your hair in a ponytail. Attempt to keep the crown of your head voluminous. The ponytail can be any height, depending on the look your want.
  5. Gather the "tail" and wrap it. Get the ponytail and wrap the hair around the elastic holding the ponytail together in order to create a bun. Using a second elastic, fasten the bun.
  6. For a "piece-y" look, pull a few small strand of hair from the ponytail. Re-curl them, if desired.

  5. Gather the "tail" and wrap it. Get the ponytail and wrap the hair around the elastic holding the ponytail together in order to create a bun. Using a second elastic, fasten the bun.
  6. For a "piecey" look, pull a few small strand of hair from the ponytail. Re-curl them, if desired.

Tips

  • It may be a good idea to spray the new curled section directly after it has been secured to stop it uncurling while you twist the other sections.
  • For curls that will last tomorrow too, keep the ponytail in overnight and take out in the morning, don't brush.

Warnings

  • If you do strenuous activity, keep touching it or don't secure and spray it properly, there is a high risk it will come out.
