Not every child is big, and not every dollhouse has to be large or expensive. This is a great gift that any child will enjoy receiving and playing with. The older ones can enjoy making it themselves. Make it as attractive as you want. Use a 3D frame, and it can be hung on the wall as a decoration in the child's room.

Steps

  1. Take a good sized box or a 3D frame.
  2. Remove the back and sketch out the area where a window should be.
  3. Take a sharp knife and a ruler.
  4. Cut out the window you drew.
  5. Paint the inside of the frame or box.
  6. Print out a pretty pattern onto paper (it will be the wallpaper). Alternatively, you can use scrapbook paper.
  7. Cut the paper to fit the shape of the back wall.
  8. Glue it to the wall and allow to dry.
  9. Stick some strong glue on the base of your box or frame.
  10. Find a piece of carpet and stick it to the floor. If you don't have any spare carpet, you could use some thick fabric or sew a little patchwork rug.
  11. Pierce two holes at either side of the window, just above the top.
  12. Cut two lengths of wire.
  13. Wrap another length of wire around the two.
  14. Cut two slightly shorter lengths of wire.
  15. Wrap the middle in a loop around the bar that you made earlier and then slip it off. Do this for each of the short wires.
  16. Place these two loops through the holes on the back wall and secure them at the back.
  17. Cut two rectangles of fabric to use as the curtains.
  18. Stitch part of the fabric over the bar to make a loop.
  19. Slip the curtains on to the bar
  20. Attach a bead at either side of the bar to secure the curtains.
  21. Print out or cut out some photos. One should be an outside scene, and others pictures would be for the walls.
  22. Stick the outside scene on the outside of the window facing in.
  23. Cut a long length of thick wire. This will make a chair to go into the box. Fold the wire into an oval and wrap the ends around the middle. Take two more lengths of wire for the legs. Make the legs by folding the wire into loops at the end and then attach it to the chair.
  24. Wrap more wire all over the chair to make it into a seat.
  25. Cut a square of fabric and stitch it together to make a cushion. Place it on the chair and put the chair in the doll house.

Tips

  • Make different size boxes, and place them near each other to create a different rooms. Place boxes on top of each other to create a large doll house effect.
  • Cut two strips of fancy ribbon and glue them around the edges of the box or frame.
  • If you don't want to make a chair out of the wire, buy little doll house furniture, and place it inside the box.
  • Decorate the interior to your liking. Cut pictures out from magazines that you like.
  • For the curtains you could use old clothing.
  • Make your bed by keeping sponge in it and over it you can put an old cloth as a bed sheet.
