This is an easy hat for the smaller head! Kids love new stuff, show that you care by knitting a hat special.

Steps

  1. Learn to knit, purl, cast on and cast off if you do not already know how.
  2. Cast on 60 stitches on size 7-8 needles. You can get a conversion chart here. Choose a yarn that is the right thickness for 7-8 needles.
  3. Knit in whichever style you prefer! Fun combinations of knit and purl are good for beginners, or you can keep it simple.
  4. Knit for {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}. You can change yarns whenever you like.
  5. At the beginning and end of each row, knit two stitches together. The number of stitches on your needle should decrease by 2 stitches once you have completed each row. Keep doing this until you have only one stitch left on your needle. Your finished work should be somewhat curved.
  6. Cut the yarn off at three times the length of your work, leaving plenty for sewing. Thread the end of the yarn onto a darning/wool needle.
  7. Keeping the last stitch in tact, slip the final knitting needle out of the work. Using the darning needle, sew the "tail" through the final stitch and then sew the sides of the work together.
  8. Weave the end of the yarn into the hat to make it tidy.
