The phrase "knit two together" or "k2tog" is commonly used in knitting patterns. It's a basic decrease that will decrease the number of stitches on your needles, and make your knitted work narrower. Read on to learn how to knit two together. (You should know how to Knit before attempting this.)

Steps

  1. Knit until you reach the point in your work where you want to decrease or where the pattern says "k2tog" or "decrease."
  2. Place the right hand needle under the second stitch of the left needle, as if you are going to knit.
  3. Slide the right hand needle through both stitches, behind the left hand needle.
  4. Wrap the yarn around the right hand needle as if you are knitting.
  5. Knit the two stitches together with the right hand needle, and pull them off the left hand needle.
  6. Congratulations, you have just knit two together! Perfect your technique by practicing some more.

Tips

  • After you have finished a row with decreases, you should have one less stitch for each k2tog you performed on that row. So if you began with eight stitches and knit two together twice, you should have six stitches by the time you reach the end of the row.
