This is a simple guide for beginners and veterans alike. This includes staples of the sport, as well as some custom variations and ideas of my own.

Steps

  1. Bunnyhop (ollie, jayhop, etc.). This is the gateway to almost all scooter tricks. To do this, you need to pull up on the handlebars, and do the same with your feet. So in turn, your wheels will leave the ground.(Just jump with your scooter)
  2. Hippy Jump. This is an easy trick that just about anyone can do. To do it, you simply need to jump off of the deck, leaving your wheels on the ground. Variations: you can switch stances by turning, do an Airwalk, or even a Rodeo (one hand on the handlebars).
  3. X-Up.(Bar-to-bar)To do an X-Up, you need to bunny hop, then twist your handlebars 90 degrees in midair, then straighten them out before landing.
  4. Manual. (Wheelie) Once again, a simple trick. Just lean back and balance on your back wheel and ride around.
  5. Nose Manual (Endo). Same as a Manual, but instead you lean forward, balancing on your front wheel.
  6. Pogo. This can be difficult for beginners, but all you need to do is hold down your brakes, and hop on your back wheel.
  7. No Foot. All you need to do is Ollie, then take both of your feet off of the deck. Similar to a Hippy Jump, you can do an Airwalk, Rodeo, etc.
  8. Kick-Out. To do this, you Ollie, then kick out your deck to the side with both feet 45 degrees. Remember to straighten the deck out before landing.
  9. Grind. Very simple, but easy to screw up. All you do is Ollie and turn your deck 90 degrees and land on the rail. Grind for as long as you need, then Ollie off.
  10. Barspin. Hard to learn but can lead to many other trick combos.
  11. Tailwhip. Hard to learn but can also lead to many other tricks. Kick the scooter deck , shoes recomended

Tips

  • Practice as much as possible.
  • Always Practice. One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking that you can instantly do things without practice. Don't worry if you don't get it on the first try. Be persistent. You'll get it eventually.
  • Keep faith, always.
  • Go to your local skate park to try out tricks and experiment with new ones.
  • Make sure to always be safe!
  • Always wear a helmet.
  • If you fall, make sure you spread out and roll so that you aren't hurt.
  • Make sure you have good wheels without flat spots.

Warnings

  • Never ride when the ground is wet. Your wheels may get very slippery, and your brakes may not work. Trust me, I've taken many falls on wet ground.
  • While it is not stylish and considered pretty lame, safety gear (especially a helmet) is definitely recommended. You will fall eventually, and it's best to be protected when you do.
  • Always be careful

Things You'll Need

  • Scooter for a beginner (Your best bet is a Lucky Crew or a Madd Gear)
  • Flat ground or Skate park
  • Gear helmet (pads are optional)
  • High top skate shoes (probably your best bet, to protect your ankles)
