Twitter has introduced a new, speedier version of its site for the mobile web and dubbed it Twitter Lite. Twitter Lite provides the key features of Twitter—your timeline, Tweets, Direct Messages, trends, profiles, media uploads, notifications, and more. At the same time, it's fast and responsive, uses less data, takes up less storage space, and supports push notifications and offline use in modern browsers. To use Twitter Lite, you just fire up the regular mobile site, which now runs this service.

Tips

  • Because Twitter Lite is on the mobile web, it works on most smartphones and tablets without an App Store or Google Play account. You won’t need an email account or credit card either.
  • Twitter Lite also offers offline support, so you will not be interrupted while using Twitter if you temporarily lose your connection.
  • You can also add Twitter Lite to your device’s home screen, so you can launch Twitter quickly with just one tap.
  • At under 1MB, Twitter Lite loads quickly (even over poor networks) and takes up less space on your phone.

Warnings

  • Twitter Lite is currently compatible with devices supporting select browsers: Available on Chrome - Version 40 & above, Firefox - Version 40 & above, Safari - Version 7 & above, Android Browser - Version 4.4 and above, Microsoft Edge and Opera .
  • You can't use Twitter Lite with a feature phone.
