If you have ever been in a keyboarding or computer class, you know you will have multiple tests that you have to pass. By learning to pass any typing test you can learn to be a fast typist and keep up your grade.

Steps

  1. Practice, practice, practice. It is very hard to improve your skills if you never put them to the test.
  2. Relax. Make sure that whenever you get ready to take a typing test take deep breath and position your fingers on the right keys.
  3. Don't look down at the keyboard. It will waste time, and you may lose track of where you left off. Plus, in some test situations you are not allowed to look down at the keyboard, so you should memorize where the keys are as fast as possible.
  4. Try online skill building tests. If you find out you didn't do well on a typing test you should take a free online test. Taking one of those will raise your skill and help you memorize the keys.
  5. Do your best. By doing your best, it registers in your brain that you really care about putting forth the effort and even if you fail you are brave enough to try again until you reach your goal. If you aren't good at typing, it is never too late to learn. Remember, if you put forth the effort now, in the long run you will have the skill and manage to pass all the typing test.

Tips

  • One tip is if you don't get the grade you expected, and you were really expecting to get a high grade, go for a walk or run to blow off some steam and then come back and try again. It is never good to work while you are mad or challenged because you may end up destroying property or hurting yourself and the others around you. Continued practice will help you succeed in passing a typing test and hopefully keeping the keyboard memorization skill for the rest of your life. Improving typing speed is a slow and steady process and will require a lot of practice.

Warnings

  • One thing to look out for is spending too much on the computer. Even though you are trying to learn something, spending too much time on the computer can mess up your eyesight and cause problems in the near future. If you stare at the computer screen often, you need to take a 15 minute break in between 25-35 minutes of working.
