Minecraft cannons come in all shapes and sizes. They are most often employed on a multiplayer server in the middle of a battle. Be careful when building a cannon, as any malfunction could easily kill you.

Steps

Mini Cannon

For a compact cannon, you will need four dispensers, two redstone, one redstone torch, one button, one bucket of water, one fence, and four TNT per shot. This cannon shoots a short distance and explodes in the air.

  1. Place three dispensers looking in at each other.
  2. Dig a 1x1 hole in the middle, and fill it with water.
  3. Place a block on top of the middle dispenser
  4. Place a dispenser above and in the middle of the other three, facing forward.
  5. Break the placeholder block and shift-click to place a redstone torch on the back dispenser.
  6. Place two redstone on the ground to the left and right of the back dispenser.
  7. Dig a hole in front of the water, and place a fence in the hole.
  8. Shift-click to place a button on the back dispenser.
  9. Put one TNT in each dispenser.
  10. Push the button to fire.

Large Cannon

This is a larger cannon that works on the same principles. It shoots a great distance and explodes just before it hits the ground. You will need eight dispensers, four redstone repeaters, one bucket of water, 14 blocks of your choice, one slab, one button, 14 redstone, and eight TNT per shot.

  1. Choose your target and place a slab facing it.
  2. Place a row of 10 blocks to the right side of your slab going back.
  3. Place two blocks to the left of the back end of your row, and one up from the left block.
    • It should look like a giant J.
  4. Place seven dispensers facing in on the left side of your cannon.
  5. Place two blocks on top of one another at the left front end of your cannon.
  6. Place a dispenser on the right side of your cannon wall, at the front end, facing in towards the slab.
  7. Place four redstone repeaters along the right wall connected to the top dispenser.
  8. Set the repeaters on full delay.
  9. Line the rest of your cannon wall with redstone, shift-clicking on dispensers.
  10. Place water in the very back of your cannon channel.
  11. Place a button on the back middle block.
  12. Fill your dispensers with TNT.
  13. Click the button to fire

Tips

  • You don't have to have your cannon sitting in the middle of nowhere. Try incorporating it into a building.
  • Testing a cannon to learn it's use and distance is a good idea before you bring it into combat.
  • There are lots of designs for different cannons on YouTube.
  • You can replace the button with a lever in some cases.
  • Bedrock or obsidian are good choices for cannons.
  • Higher elevation is good if you want to see your ammunition better.
  • Try covering the back with a TNT proof block to prevent damage.
  • If you replace the button on Method 2 with an 11 repeater redstone clock, the cannon will automatically fire repeatedly until the dispensers are empty.
