A driver abstract is a record of your driving history. It lists your current licence status, as well as information about convictions, demerit points and suspensions. In British Columbia, Canada, all driver licensing is handled by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC). Read on to learn how to obtain this information.

Steps

  1. Understand what you will receive. ICBC only offers a 5 year history.
  2. Decide how you want to receive it. Your driver abstract can be picked up in person, mailed, faxed or emailed to you.
  3. Request your history. There are a few options:
    • In person. You can visit an Expressway or a licensing office[1]. You will need to show your licence.
    • By telephone. You will be asked to provide your licence number.
    • By mail. You need to include your name, date of birth and signature in your request.

Tips

  • The current ICBC telephone numbers and mailing address can be found on their website[2].
