This wikiHow teaches you how to leave a group chat conversation and remove it from your Groups list on Facebook Messenger's iOS app.

10 Second Summary

1. Open the Messenger app.
2. Tap Groups.
3. Tap on a group chat.
4. Tap on the group name at the top.
5. Scroll down and tap Leave Group.
6. Tap Leave to confirm.

Steps

  1. Open the Facebook Messenger app on your iPhone or iPad. The Messenger icon looks like a blue speech balloon with a white lightning bolt in it.
    • Alternatively, you can open the Facebook app and tap the Messenger icon in the upper-right corner of your screen. This will automatically open the Messenger app, or redirect you to the App Store to download it.
  2. Tap the Groups button. This button looks like three figureheads in the lower-right corner of your screen. Here you will see a list of all the group chats you're a part of.
    • If Messenger opens up to a conversation, tap the back button in the top-left to go back to your Messenger Home screen, and then tap Groups.
  3. Tap on a group chat. Scroll down and find the group you want to leave and tap on it to open the conversation.
  4. Tap the group name at the top of your screen. You will see a tiny arrow icon next to the group name at the top. Tapping on it will open the Group menu with various options to edit this group chat.
  5. Scroll down and tap Leave Group. This option is written in red letters towards the bottom of the Group menu.
  6. Tap Leave to confirm. This will confirm your action and remove you from the group chat.
    • Leaving a group will archive the conversation. You will not see this group chat in your Groups tab anymore, but you can access your archived chats by searching the group name in www.messenger.com on a desktop browser.
