An easy and enjoyable project for beginner knitters, knitting your own dishcloth is also useful. You'll end up with an eco-friendly solution to dish washing, as the cloth can be used again and again – just wash it in a normal load of washing when it gets dirty. Be sure to make some extras for your friends.

Steps

  1. Cast on 36 stitches.

  2. Knit all the stitches for the first 4 rows to create a border.
  3. Begin knitting the pattern. (K3 at the beginning and ends of the following rows is for the border.)

    • Row 1 - K3, (K3, P3) 5 times, K3
    • Row 2 - K3, K2, (P3, K3) 4 times, P3, K1, K3
    • Row 3 - K3, P2, (K3, P3) 4 times, K3, P1, K3
    • Row 4 - K3, (P3, K3) 5 times, K3

    • Row 6 - K3, P1, (K3, P3) 4 times, K3, P2, K3
  4. Repeat Rows 1 - 6 seven more times.

  5. Repeat Row 1.

  6. Knit all the stitches of the last four rows to finish the border.

  7. Cast off.

Tips

  • Abbreviations used:

Things You'll Need

  • Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in any color of your choice, or similar cotton yarn.
  • Always use cotton yarn. Polyesters and wool's do not work well as dishcloths.
  • Needles: 4 mm (US size 6)
