For the person who doesn't want to make their hair curly that often, it doesn't make sense to own a curling iron. However, it is possible to curl hair using a straightening iron. While it sounds paradoxical, it does work! Follow the steps below to see how.

Steps

  1. Comb your hair out. Remove any tangles or messed-up hair. Add any hair-styling products that you consider appropriate for keeping curls in place for your hair type, such as a spritz of hairspray.
  2. Open the straightener. Close the straightening iron on the lock of hair and quickly wrap the strand around the iron. Slide the straightener down the lock of hair, taking care not to tug at it, but still holding onto the end so that part of the strand remains wrapped around the iron. Make sure not to let the iron sit on the hair for more than a second so you don't burn or damage the hair.
  3. Repeat as needed on the same strand until you get a spiral that you like. Keep in mind, though, that the more heat you apply, the more damage your hair might sustain in the long run.
  4. Continue until you have as many spiral curls as you'd like.

Tips

  • More beauty companies are adding the technologies of infrared heat to their straighteners to bring out the old and moisture in the hair, and negative ions to prevent frizzing, by taking away flying hair and static electricity. This will help maintain curl without creating frizz.

Warnings

  • Avoid using metal hair straighteners, as they may damage the hair, especially when attempting to curl the hair using one.

Things You'll Need

  • A hair straightener
  • A comb
  • A hairspray
