A guide on how to make BIG LEGO® models with not many pieces, it is really quite easy when you know how to.

Steps

  1. Get as many large LEGO pieces as you can (if you are just going to build a large model, photograph it and take it down, ask a friend if you can borrow some of their LEGO pieces)
  2. Try not to make it so LEGO mini figures can go inside the model
  3. Building with a friend always helps, if you have somebody to build it with then it is easier to concentrate.
  4. Try not to use too many strange shaped LEGO pieces as this can ruin the whole thing
  5. Take a photograph after you have built it, this means that you can build it again if you want to.
  6. If you are NOT working with a friend, planning what you are going to build first makes things easier.
  7. If you are already a LEGO fan and have lots of LEGO Bricks, try to avoid taking apart LEGO models that you have already built.
  8. Listen to music while building, this is optional, It may be easier easier to build with background noise.
  9. Try to build the model over a few weeks, take your time and don't rush.

Tips

  • Make sure you have a place to put the model before building.
  • If you are building with a friend, make sure that both of you like LEGO bricks.
  • If you can find old DUPLO bricks you can put 2x2, 2x4 or 2x8 pieces on them. They are easy to find at sales.
  • Listen to music or have the TV on in the background if you like background noise.
  • If there's someone like a mean brother or sister try hiding it in a secret hiding spot so the thing your building is safe from purposely getting messed up.
  • If you're building houses and structures, you can leave empty space in walls.
  • Try to eat large meals during building, don't keep getting snacks.
  • Avoid using Mega Bloks (or any other toy that looks like LEGO but isn't. Real LEGO bricks have the words 'LEGO' imprinted on the studs), they are not proper LEGO blocks and don't work well with real LEGO bricks. The quality of them is also much lower than that of real LEGO bricks.(It is good to use those type of pieces on the inside, or somewhere you won't see them)

Warnings

  • Avoid having other people in the room you are working in as they may disturb you or what you are building.
  • A pet might come into the room you are building the model in and knock it over. This is normal -- it may happen several times, but if you keep taking the pet out of the room it will eventually learn that it is not allowed in the room.
  • If a LEGO piece does not go on properly, it is either a fake (e.g. Mega Bloks) or just try to put it on gently and it will eventually go on, and if not the piece is likely broken.
